People have operations to change the part of their brains that causes them to love, to hate, and even to feel. Society is perfectly in order, and there is little crime. But is it worth the price?

After meeting Alex, Lena doesn’t think so. She’s feared that the virus of love has run through her veins her whole life because her mother succumbed to it. After meeting Alex, she learns to embrace her emotions. The society built around her is a bunch of lies, and the only way to break free is to escape and never go back again.

I loved this book. The constant intensity of an oppressing society held my attention throughout. The characters are all very well rounded, (even the flat toned ones that have had the operation-which I’m sure is hard to write). The best relationship is between Lena and her best friend, Hana. I enjoyed reading about them whenever they were together.

This book ends on quite a cliffhanger! I’ve already preordered the sequel, Pandemonium. Excellent job, Lauren Oliver. You’ve got my attention!

Birds of a Feather by Leslie Soule

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-upFIj1JUqBg/TZHkgybJcFI/AAAAAAAAA-s/hgL6hLWs-5E/s200/BirdsofaFeather4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5589499864486080594" />

Alexis decides to write a steampunk story about her grandmother. In her alternate history, her grandmother belongs to The Birds of a Feather, an organization of freedom fighters from the French Revolution. Her grandmother, Diane Falcon, is planning to lead an expedition into the enemy city-state of Lyon, otherwise renamed Coeur De Lion. She must infiltrate their headquarters to find the Universal Solvent and stop their flying war ships. Or does she have a plan of her own?

Birds of a feather is an awesome steampunk short story. I loved the idea about a girl writing about her grandmother, and the teen voice shines through. With spies, potions, a duel, love lost, mechanical birds and guardians, this story is a feast for the imagination.

The twists and turns in Birds of a Feather will keep you guessing until the end. What does Diane Falcon really want? In a way she must choose between love and freedom for her people, and she chooses right.

To buy click here.

Soul Quest by Amy Jones

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WnuyzLEItIc/TYlnSjNqcLI/AAAAAAAAA-k/7XiZ9ASRHD0/s200/soul.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587110381117665458" />

In Soul Quest, Angels walk the earth, but they’re not all good. It’s the Aengels Liv has to look out for, because they steal people’s souls. They’re the culprits behind the September 11th attacks. They feed off humanity, and the angry souls fizzle around their faces in death masks.

Liv is not a normal high school freshman. She’s also an Oracle of Earth. One of four human-born Oracles, Liv has the power to battle the Aengels and the even more powerful Daevas, Aengels that have undergone full transformation. It’s up to her and the other three human-born Oracles to save humanity from their destruction. Guided by her Guardian, Beau, Liv must fully realize and develop her talents along with her friends. But being an Oracle of Earth has its downfalls. Her love interest, Jedd, is a normal human, and her powers threaten to come between them.

Soul Quest is rich with re-imagined folklore and has a great teen narrative voice. Set in the year 2015 with flashbacks dating back to Sept 11th, 2001 it deals with the tragedy in a unique way. Amy Maurer Jones has imagined her world with fully realized mythological beings in various forms. This is one complex world cool enough to lose yourself in.

I especially enjoyed the chapters in Liv’s point of view. I loved reading her thoughts on starting high school, falling for her best friend, and discovering her powers. She is a strong character that jumps right off the page.

I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys teen paranormal love stories.

To purchase click here.

Psyche's Prophecy by Ann Gimpel

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fI5TcMBWbwU/TYlc6wzwfyI/AAAAAAAAA-c/lGzTeHUUGxE/s200/PsychesProphecy4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587098977333968674" />
Lara McInnis is a psychologist with a psychic gift. Although she’s kept her gift hidden, she uses it to help understand her patients. She excels at her job until one pair of patients block her insight. This couple has big problems, and she can’t see the danger lurking behind the husband’s belligerent demeanor. Her involvement with them sets her on a roller coaster ride of horrors, and she must fight her way out of it to survive.

Meanwhile, the price of oil is going up. The city has major power outages, and riots have broken out in other parts of the country. Lara, her boyfriend, and her psychology student have all had the same dream signifying something precarious about the earth. Lara must consult a psychic to determine the meaning behind the dream.

With multiple threats brewing, Psyche’s Prophecy builds up with intense suspense, keeping me from putting it down. The paranormal aspect of it is very interesting, and the characters are so well developed they seemed like real people. I especially enjoyed the deepening relationship between Lara and her boyfriend, Trev. They learn to trust in each other, and their love pulls them through the hardships they face. Ann Gimpel uses her own expertise as a psychologist to make this story believable. Her prose flows in beautiful sentences, making it fun and easy to read.

To purchase click here.

Review: Christmas Holly

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z53V0PERewA/TXfF2s-BDuI/AAAAAAAAA-E/bs9lDgBkGGs/s200/ChristmasHolly4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5582147806723903202" />

Christmas Holly
Sutton Fox

Christmas for Holly Clark meant a slew of jokes about her name and a stint as The Ghost of Christmas Future. She’d doomed to save ten souls before she goes on, and after saving nine, the tenth seems one too many. People aren’t making the right choices, and she can’t force them to change.

Her last soul to save is Greg Marshall, the love of her short life. He visits her at night and when the others in the tribe are busy, giving her the gift of passionate love. But he’s also a secret advisor to the tribe’s affairs, whispering in their ears when they need his judgment. He pulls away from Nimi, taking his love with him until he fails when she needs him most. This turns her into a black widow, a sorceress of a woman who comes back to haunt her seventh child, and in turn, to haunt him.

Black Widow is a tale filled with blood, passion, and grit. Told in elegantly written prose, the story reads like verses of a poem, telling a tragic tale of warring tribes, clashes of gods, and unfulfilled love. This is not for the faint of heart. Deeth holds nothing back in her realistic world of brutality and vengeance. This tale is an ingenious interweaving of so many fantasies and myths.

Available at Gypsy Shadow Publishing
www.GypsyShadow.com

Once Upon a December Nightmare by Cherie Reich

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/TH01wO-OzJI/AAAAAAAAA4E/B2fGCbW5MfY/s200/decembernightmareweb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511620621740461202" />

Wild Child Publishing

Amazon Buy Link

A chilling story of an urban legend dating back to the Civil War.

Four friends travel a seldom used back road in the middle of a cold December night on a joyride straight to hell. Two are sisters, two are boyfriend and girlfriend, and two are best friends. Only when the claws come out do we see where the loyalties lie.

Once Upon a December Nightmare is very scary. Reich plays upon what we all fear most: the unknown. She incorporates a neat dose of Civil War history, and creates her own urban legend. The characters are excellently done with well rounded back stories and secrets that lead them to their own brutal ends.

The imagery is stark and chilling with “brake lights” that “ bathe the trees in red” and a forest of trees that “lines the path like enemy soldiers”. Sounds are littered throughout deep silence like a great horror movie. The forest “cracks like a gun shot” and you hear the sound of “clothes ripping.”

Don’t read this story in the dark!

Grounded by Sandra Cox

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/TBY7TTpTMyI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/X-MFM80m3IE/s200/thumbnail.asp.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482634799247209250" />

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Class Act Books
Buy Link

A Wonderfully Original Paranormal Romance

Gillian Stone is beautiful, rich, and trapped. One of her ancestors wished on a genie without thinking of consequences and she carries a heavy duty curse grounding her in a statue everyday. On top of that, if she gets pregnant with a girl, she will die in childbirth and her daughter will carry the curse on. That’s quite a dark harbinger in which to live a life.

Darth is a newly appointed servant at Gillian’s mansion. Although he’s got a chip on his shoulder and is rough around the edges, he’s handsome, charming, and tied to Gillian by fate. She rescued his sister from a bunch of thugs and he feels forever in her debt. He’s consumed with a desire to hunt these thugs down and make them pay, and to protect Gillian from their clutches. If Gillian is ever to be with Darth, she must confront the Detective bent on revenge and break the curse.

Grounded is a wonderfully original paranormal romance with two characters that have a whole bunch of chemistry and wit. Gillian is a kick butt heroine who rides a black Harley and has a soft spot for a unique talking cat, and Darth is a big sweety at heart who wants to set things right. On top of it all is one hilarious cat who steals the show with his internal dialog. I loved him the most of all!

Grounded is not only about Gillian being grounded in a statue, but about her finding a way to be grounded in life: a true modern day fairytale.

Starquest by Hywela Lyn

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 129px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/S-C9UswEt8I/AAAAAAAAAqw/sVIT5MlNgZY/s200/StarQuest_wrp234_300.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467578110935611330" />

Book Info
Buy Link
Genre: Space Opera, Sci fi, Romance
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Jess wakes up to disaster. As the starship pulls her escape pod in, she wonders if she walked right into a trap. Indeed the people aboard the ship will change the course of her life forever.

Starquest is a space adventure novel with a sweet romance at its core. A neat point of view switch to journal entries part way through is an effective technique and very originally done. The story has a flavor of political commentary much like that of Gulliver’s Travels as Jess finds her way through different planets and civilizations studying their societal structure and their theological ideals.

My heart went out to Jess as I read her plight through her own words. She suffers through torture, and meets so many dangerous creatures and evil beings in her journey. To heighten the trouble, she is accompanied by her childhood friend who would rather abandon his job as head stable master to protect her.

Troubled Hearts is a highly emotional romantic tale told in a historical setting. Ms. Hatch instills deep emotions into her characters and provides excellent reasons behind them. Julia is plagued by the death of a stillborn child, and that event has brought a rift in her marriage. Can two hearts repair the damage done by the loss? The drama is intense throughout the short story, keeping me scrolling to the very last page.

The Timestone Key by Pamela Hearon

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/S7KOx_Ak4hI/AAAAAAAAAlM/6nQpso6-ItI/s200/thetimestonekey333x500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454579088077677074" />

Buy Link
Book Info:
Genre: Romance, fantasy
Publisher: Lyrical Press

As a young child, Halley made a deal with Merlin by accepting a white feather from an owl visiting her room one night. She follows a firefly down to a secret beach and finds the journal of a teenage girl who disappeared years ago. Her story leads Beth on a journey that brings her into the pasts of all the townspeople. At first the young girl’s writing inspires her painting to new levels and then it challenges Beth to face her own past.

The details of Firefly Beach give Beth’s story meaning and make it come alive. Ms. Pentermann transports the reader to a cozy town on the breathtaking shores of Maine. As a New Englander myself, I can say her descriptions are spot on and vivid. Underneath all the beautiful description is a mystery that unravels slowly and powerfully. Her novel is about personal relationships and how people are shaped by their past and the decisions they’ve made throughout their lives.

I very much enjoyed sharing in Beth’s success as she overcame her past and her dream as an artist took shape. The townspeople were three dimensional, interesting characters with their own pasts and triumphs and tribulations. The story was a beautiful puzzle to put together and remained a mystery right up until the very last pages where it unwound in profound emotions and truths that came full circle. It was not the way I thought it would be, in fact, the ending pages were far more satisfying!

Firefly Beach is a soothing read that heals at the same time. I recommend it to anyone up for a good mystery and in need of a vacation in which to escape.

Ink in the Blood by Chandra Ryan

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/S5Wol2uvArI/AAAAAAAAAiw/pqcFux-0r78/s200/inkintheblood133x200.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446444692674642610" />

Book Info:
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Romance, Paranormal
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Buy Link

Isabella has special abilities to change her appearance, but she’s going to need more than her magic to confront her past demons. Now she has to keep him alive while resisting temptation.

Ink in the Blood is a dark and edgy urban fantasy where potions and magic are considered deadlier weapons than hand guns. There’s a constant, lurking danger that stalks Isabella throughout the read, creating a suspenseful atmosphere that kept me scrolling down to read more. Her chemistry with the human, Jacob, is sizzling and well paced. Their love crosses the boundaries between Asura and human, and cop and former addict. They have a lot to overcome and the tension is palpable. I found myself wondering how Jacob will react to the truth of what she is and how the two of them can outsmart a man that can turn a normal woman insane.

Chompy by Ralph Piccolo

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/S5RaFCZNWYI/AAAAAAAAAio/VAKkPCiizyM/s200/Chompy3-300.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446076891986221442" />

Book Info:
Genre: Children's, Fantasy
Publisher: Gypsy Shadow Publishing
Buy Link

Anna is a vibrant little girl that likes to explore enchanted forests with her best friend, Mike. Her only hope is a mythical creature hidden deep within the forest. Mike must journey by himself to prove that he truly is her knight and save her.

Chompy is a charming story told in the style and rhythm of an age old fairytale. Although it has magic and a furry little animal that squeaks, it is also very serious with a real life message for children and adults alike. Ruled by the Sisterhood and the Guardians, the village may be the last one of its kind. Life is not about love and risk, but commitment and adherence to the policies dictated by the Sisterhood. Betrothed to a man she doesn’t love and tempted by her best friend’s intended, Mary has trouble believing in the Sisterhood’s rules. Even more, she craves what lies beyond the village walls, seduced by her mother’s tales of a vast ocean beyond the forest of hands and teeth.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth is gruesome and dark with love at its core. Set in a post apocalyptic society of religion and fear, the story draws on freedom verses imprisonment and predestination verses choice. Ryan weaves a complex web of passion, love, and jealousy. Filled with tension, strained relationships, and lots of teen angst drama, this tale is hard to put down. A great sense of irresolution keeps page after page turning at light speed. But if you want answers, this book is not for you. Written in a literary style with elegant prose and poignant descriptions, Ryan is more focused on the journey than the end result. Perhaps she will give us more answers in the second installment, The Dead-Tossed Waves.

The Sidhe and the Dragon-Lost Jewel by SilverValkyre

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/S28ef7wJrOI/AAAAAAAAAgU/biJU8SL1QjM/s200/SDLost%2520JewlSVcoverGSP-500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435596809223908578" />

Book Info:
Genre: Fantasy
Publisher: Gypsy Shadow Publishing
To Purchase

Mahshon, the immortal prince of the elves, must protect the land from all things, including dragons. And that special woman is no where to be found. As he answers a tricky dragon riddle, he finally understands what she meant to him. But does his realization come too late?

SilverValkyre weaves an enchanting tale that flows like lyrics to a love ballade. Her prose is graceful and ornately decorated with rich description. Each word is a jewel to marvel at and savor. The story whisked me away to another land. A cataclysmic event called the Curse rattled her land. The elves died of fever, and the Reptars’ technology and advanced society crumbled. Now all they have is a mystical stone, rumored to be a dragon’s egg that hovers in their council hall, their last ray of hope.

Z’thandra lives a life plagued by prejudice from her foster sister and the untrusting villagers in the Reptar council. Driven by ignorance, the Reptars are fierce and quick to condemn. After a chance meeting with a handsome human in the swamps surrounding her village, Z’thandra is faced with the decision of her life. Will she leave the only home she’s known and doom the Reptars to extinction, or will she suffer for their own sins and lead them to a better life?

Set in the fantasy world of Aphanasia, Shades of Green is a unique and unsettling tale of life after an apocalypse. The descriptions are exotic and fun to read, and I felt for Z’thandra’s plight throughout. Amongst all of the prejudice and hatred she is able to forgive, and that is truly heroic. The ending is unexpected and left me with much to think about. This is no fluffy fantasy tale, but a powerful and emotional journey with a profound message at the end.

Land of Entrapment by Andi Marquette

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/S13I9YrrF2I/AAAAAAAAAfM/pwLP-mXO7OE/s200/51MrCbl-xcL__SL500_AA240_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430717682601891682" />

Book Info:
Genre: Detective/Adventure/Lesbian Fiction
To Purchase

This unique detective book is intensely emotional and hilariously witty while dealing with a serious subject that is severely overlooked in modern society. Neo-nazi’s are extremists bent on hating anyone that isn’t white, straight, or shares their same belief systems. Their actions are hurtful and violent, and they prey on innocent minds, recruiting the next wave of terror. Not only does Ms. Marquette deal with this subject in an eloquent and informational way, she shows the reader how someone as normal as we are can get sucked into their schemes. Ms Marquette presents a complex portrayal of seducement and brainwashing that is well researched and well conveyed, making for suspenseful reading.

K.C’s ex, Melissa, has lost her younger sister to a group of Neo Nazis. After a messy breakup and three years of silence, Melissa finds K.C. and pleads with her to help find her missing sister. Because of her research on extremist groups, K.C. agrees to travel to New Mexico and help her ex. What she doesn’t know is that this adventure will turn dangerous and bring her to dark places both physical and psychological, dealing with crazy people that will stop at nothing to have their warped views be heard.

Ms. Marquette’s characters are so real and three dimensional that sometimes I had to remind myself that it was fiction and I wasn’t reading an episode of Dateline NBC! K.C. felt like my own friend, trying to explain to me how she got stuck in a crazy situation. I loved reading about all of the detective work and the profound relationships that develop during the course of the novel. The descriptions convince me to visit New Mexico sometime for a vacation. I can almost taste the chili peppers on my tongue!

Ms. Marquette is a brilliant story teller with a strong voice and a message that everyone should hear. I look forward to reading more of her work.

The Henge Betrayed: Book 1: Flight by Janet Lane Walters

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/Szzk-LJNQFI/AAAAAAAAAeM/6tgGUP57nd0/s200/Flight.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421459808241664082" />

Book Info:
Genre: Fantasy/Adventure/Young Adult
Publisher: Mundania Press
To Purchase

This adventurous fantasy begins as four siblings flee their home. Prince Zedron is consumed with power and upsets the balance of the land in an effort to extend his borders. He means to slay his own kin and take their lands for his own. The childrens’ parents stay behind to protect the secrets of the Henge while they journey to meet their teachers in the city. Each sibling must use their special ability: earth, wind, water, and fire to protect and care for one another. Along their journey they meet friends and foes and learn that their greatest strength is their bond and love for one another.

There is a great sense of urgency right from the start of this book. Each chapter is told from the varying perspective of the siblings, keeping the narrative fresh. Magic abounds in many mediums. Walters creates new and interesting ways to bend the magic to heal, ward off predators, grow food, and listen to gossip on the air. I especially enjoyed reading about one sibling’s affinity for air and how she uses her flute to “play the hiding song” and keep them from danger.

Alizand, Prince Zedron’s son, is the most interesting character in “The Henge Betrayed”. His situation is a stark contrast to the siblings’ warm and supportive life in the Henge. Alizand lives a Cinderella tale with a vicious step mother and step brothers that conspire to steal his throne. The castle in which he lives is full of power hungry, greedy nobles that will stop at nothing, even if it means torturing young children, to gain influence with the Prince. It is only through his involvement with the siblings from the Henge that he learns true friendship and love.

Book 1, Flight, is brimming with magic, a full cast of characters, and a journey full of danger and adventure. The group of orphan children fending for themselves in the tough city reminded me of Oliver Twist with playful hints of Peter Pan. Walters has written a charming first book to her series.

Gypsy Moon by Brianna Roarke

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/SykisVHbXtI/AAAAAAAAAdE/KD2Uk-3Ind0/s200/GypsyMoon-200x300.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415898171867619026" />

Book Info:
Genre: Paranormal/Romance/Erotic
Publisher: REd Rose Publishing
To Purchase

Anna Brannon is a vet with a penchant for bringing in strays. More than that, she’s secretly a gypsy that can turn a coffee switch off from across the room and light her way in the darkness. One night while she’s stranded at home by a storm she finds a naked man lying at her doorstep. He’s one stray that she’ll never forget.

Howl Raven is a werewolf on the prowl for a mate. While taking up a scent, he’s struck by a silver bullet and has to find shelter before the metal heats up his blood. Reeling from pain, he falls at a gypsy woman’s doorstep. Although his family was cursed long ago, luck is now on his side. This woman has the power to heal his wounds and more importantly, is the scent he’s after. Will he be able to control the wolf inside of him? And can she help him elude the man who wants him dead?

Brianna Roarke’s writing is smooth and flows like liquid poetry. The intimacy between Anna and Howl is tangible, and their passion can heat up a house on a cold winter’s day.
I enjoyed the irony of a vet finding a werewolf. Two people could not be more perfect for each other! The gypsy magic added a whole new level of paranormal to the story. Overall, it was a nice combination of werewolves, magic, curses, and romance.

If you’re looking for a great paranormal erotic romance, then Gypsy Moon fits the bill.

Full Moon in December by Lisa Ruszcyk

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/SyUluW8jMXI/AAAAAAAAAc0/ifFxKqiujW4/s200/FullMoonInDecember.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414775605346644338" />

Book Info:
Genre: Mainstream/Fantasy
Publisher: Club Lighthouse Publishing
To Purchase

Sam, a newly appointed college professor, has many secrets about his past life. He’s managed to elude his past until a student shows up to his class, bringing memories and questions about why Sam’s shunned his mysterious moonlit powers. Meanwhile, Kayla, a young girl abducted by a witch at two years old, is discovering that the world is much bigger than her greenhouse and her “second mom” may not always be right. In another part of the world, a Hollywood screenwriter, Dall, finds a strange psychic woman on the beach and is drawn to her, taking her home. All of these lives are connected by one person, and their journeys weave an intricate tapestry both mystical and mysterious.

This book was amazing. Lisa Ruszcyk has an intriguing way of spinning out a story and a unique and tantalizing voice. The story is an enigma that tickled my thoughts until it was solved, making me read as fast as I could! Ruszcyk hints at conclusions but never gives enough information for a complete picture until the end, when all the pieces fall together in a perfectly completed puzzle.

There was enough magic and supernatural in the book to keep me interested, but not so much as to take over the plot or the characters. The idea of a “changed” person is fascinating. I enjoyed reading about the process and the various consequences. Ruszcyk’s ideas will keep my mind occupied for days to come as I turn around the endless possibilities and correlations.

Her characters are believable and lifelike, with motivations that are understandable and not entirely good or bad. It is this grey area that makes her characters so interesting. I cared about each one of them, and was excited when they were brought together. Their relationships are complicated and ever changing and what they learn about themselves and others is profound.

Full Moon in December is a captivating read!

Kingdom of Arnhem, Woman of Honor by Nicole Zoltack

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/Sx0VyjNZTmI/AAAAAAAAAbk/6PSJ0KsaNBQ/s200/Woman20of20Honor20Zoltack2030020dpi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412506285358272098" />

Book Info:
Genre: Fantasy/Romance
Publisher: Desert Breeze Publishing
To Purchase: http://stores.desertbreezepublishing.com/-strse-Fantasy/Categories.bok
Author Website: http://nicolezoltack.com/woman_of_honor-1.html

Aislinn is a little girl with big dreams. After the death of her older brother, she decides to follow in his footsteps and become a lady knight. Her quest for knighthood brings many challenges and the temptation of forbidden love. Aislinn learns that being a knight means putting the Kingdom in front of personal concerns and helping those that cannot help themselves. In a journey is fraught with danger and filled with adventure, Aislinn is forced to grow up fast. She must stay strong and develop the skills necessary to realize her lifelong dream.

With sword fights, passionate love, mythical creatures, and courtly games, Woman of Honor is my kind of book. I love the idea of incorporating real history in fantasy, and Ms. Zoltack’s book is based on the real life story of a group of female knights. Blending history with fiction, her writing is full of plot and adventure and her characters are strong and believable. Most of all, I grew to love all of them and cared about their hardships and successes.

Aislinn is quite the main protagonist. She’s tenacious and bold, beautiful and strong. The romance that blooms between her and the prince is well developed after years of solid friendship and teasing. I enjoyed reading about their secret courtship and had no idea how their romance would turn out! Ms. Zoltack has a few twists in store that will shock and startle as well as please.

In conclusion, I thoroughly recommend this book for everyone that enjoys fantasy, romance and adventure! I will be eagerly awaiting the sequel, Knight of Glory.

Love on the Side of the NJ Turnpike by Lux Zakari

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 146px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/SxK9M4VmoTI/AAAAAAAAAak/4R7ejhTTClc/s200/njturnpikecoversm.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409594131404464434" />

Book Info:
Genre: Romance/Erotica
Publisher: Paper Bag Press
ISBN: none
To Purchase: https://www.paper-bag-press.com
Author Website: http://luxzakari.wordpress.com

Regina hopes that a road trip will cure her boyfriend Heath’s depression. In my opinion, Heath is one lucky young man.

Love on the Side of the NJ Turnpike paints a realistic picture of how the economy can affect relationships. Heath chooses to let his problems get in the way of his love for Regina, but in the end he realizes that love is exactly what he needs to heal.

Lux Zakari’s writing is sexually and emotionally charged. Her father mysteriously vanished and never returned. After months of silence, Beth receives a package from her missing father, dated back to the exact day that he disappeared. It contains curious writings and a stone said to ward away faeries. This package only leads her to more questions and a great adventure.

The Faerie Conspiracies is a cleverly written book perfect for children and adults alike. The magic appears in hints and glimpses and is never overused like other magical children’s tales. Beth has a sparkling personality that is feisty and independent, but also endearing. I found myself silently cheering for her as the book progressed. Her fate is inevitably tied to a cute boy at her school, adding more tension and spice to the plot. Their relationship develops nicely from antagonistic rivals into a charming friendship with a chemistry that promises more.

Ms. Stacey has an ability to create a witty and vibrant tone, all the while spinning a whimsical tale of mystery and deception. I found myself turning page after page to learn what the writings meant, where her father disappeared to, and who was a faerie after all.

It was especially interesting to read about devious and dangerous faeries, when all too many times they are stereotypically cast as benevolent. Her words do not stumble or mumble at all, but paint powerful scenes that are sometimes beautiful and longing and other times gritty and raw with a razor sharp edge. The sheer force of emotion drives her writing, and as a reader, you can tell that her words are products of life experience.

Cryptic enough to be universal, there are an infinite amount of interpretations that the reader can make, drawing parallels to their own experiences. You feel her pain, her pleasure, her fear along with your own. As she says in the back of her book, you are not alone. Bryant succeeds in that endeavor, creating a collection of jewels that cut as well as sparkle.

Watery Deep by Roxanne Smolen

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 125px; height: 175px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/SjotcTqA7kI/AAAAAAAAARs/EJhpiMfN8F0/s320/waterydeep2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348637471791967810" />

Book Info:
Genre: Science Fiction
Publisher: SynergEbooks
ISBN: 0-7443-1635-9
To Purchase: SynergEbooks Store

Natica Galos is a colonial scout for new worlds, searching for places that can sustain life. She is haunted by visions of a man from a previous mission who died in her care. Although it wasn’t her fault, Natica blames herself for his death, and the battle scarred memories get in the way of her job and her friendships. Burnt out from overwork and guilt, she returns to her home planet to celebrate her sixteenth birthday. Her friend, Impani follows her uninvited, and together they go after her long lost twin brother, entangling themselves with pirates, a sea monster, and much more.

The Watery Deep is a creative and original story with an interesting blend of fantasy and science fiction and a great sense of adventure. The characters are feisty, emotional, and real, with shifting dynamics between their friendships and alliances that makes for suspenseful reading!

I particularly enjoyed the tumultuous friendship between Natica and Impani, two girls from very different backgrounds with very different strengths and weaknesses. There is spitefulness, jealously, and underneath it all, caring and compassion as they sort out their own problems with themselves and their world. Teenage angst abounds in full throttle, which makes every scene a delicious read.

Natica’s home planet of Naiad is full of vibrant imagery and alien atmospheres. Almost entirely covered by water, the cities float on coral, the taxis are air boats, and devious pirate gangs roam the waters. It is one of the most creative worlds I’ve ever read about, and makes the story all that more intriguing.

Complete with romance, adventure, shifting alliances, and good family values, The Watery Deep is an excellent story for all ages.

McShannon's Chance by Jennie Marsland

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 207px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/Si_4rKGzV8I/AAAAAAAAARc/7amS6j6duiw/s320/McShannon%27s+Chance.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345764703043016642" />

Book Info:
Genre: Romance/Historical/Western
Publisher: Mystic Moon Press
ISBN:
To Purchase: Mystic Moon Press Bookstore

Beth Underhill is a city girl in the highest sense. The niece of a famous racehorse breeder, she was raised with a lofty upbringing by her Aunt and never asked to do a chore. Her dresses are fancy, and her manners are impeccable. When her Aunt passes away, the estate falls to her cousin, who wishes to sell it immediately, putting Beth in a precarious situation. With enough money to get her through five months and no more, she is desperate. But she is also strong willed. Instead of waiting for her cousin to select his idea of a respectable husband for her, she applies to Trey McShannon’s add for a wife and travels out west to meet her destiny.

Trey McShannon is a practical frontiersman. Having fought for the union at a young age, he’s seen war and death, and his life experiences have changed him into a quiet, mysterious man. He needs a sturdy wife to help him run his household, someone that is not afraid to do hard work and get dirty. When he sees Beth Underhill, and learns of her famous lineage, he fears he has made a mistake. But he is also drawn to her, and realizes that there is more to her pretty face and high pedigree than meets the eye. She’s also a talented artist, a dutiful worker, and shares his love of horses.

McShannon’s Chance has a wonderful historical flavor to it with picturesque writing and scenes right out of a western. Marsland captures the image of a lonesome frontier that is both beautiful and dangerous. Her writing is realistic, but at the same time it has a grand sense of adventure and romance. The pacing is steady and sure, allowing the reader to savor each scene.

Marsland takes her time to tell the tale, setting up a sweeping historical romance with characters that have so much detail and depth they could be anyone’s own ancestors. It reminded me of my favorite series growing up, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. Like Dr. Quinn, Beth is a strong female character with honor, compassion, and patience. She works hard to earn her life beside Trey, and her rewards are immense.

McShannon’s Chance is an ideal historical romance escape! I found my soul soothed and my heart warmed by Marsland’s writing and I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys an excellent historical romance with real life characters and a western flavor.

Dark Mage by Ciaran Corby

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/SiM1gsG3gCI/AAAAAAAAAQ8/JyfwqviftJ4/s320/darkmage_LRG.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342172418703589410" />

Book Info:
Genre: Fantasy/Dark Fantasy
Publisher: Mystic Moon Press
ISBN: 978-0-9823251-3-1
To Purchase: Mystic Moon Press Bookstore

The most interesting aspect of The Dark Mage is the fact that the story revolves around the bad guy, the dark mage Kerberous. The tale begins as he is about to take over a magical city, using a boat made from the wood of sacrificial alters. He is arrogant and impatient, desiring none other than fame and power. Drawing on the years of spilled blood that make up the planks, he plans to kill the current ruler of Syren and claim the city for himself.

The night before his battle, Kerberous runs into two powerful women; Denella, a vampire that makes him uncomfortable and Seana, a fairy that ignites a desire he’s never known. Seana shows him through love that he was a fairy himself. He’s lived the life of a mortal man because he forgot his way home when replaced with a human child. The dark magic that he’s craved has been an unfit substitute for the emptiness in his heart caused by being away from his homeland and his fairy magic.

Corby shows us that bad people are not always evil for simple sport or fun. They have souls and hearts like the rest of us and are only driven to evil because they lack something vital in their own lives. Most importantly, she shows us that everyone deserves a second chance.

The Dark Mage is a tale of romance, adventure, and redemption complete with fairies, vampires, elves, mages, and even water dragons! Corby is a master at balancing the romantic scenes with those of action. She also presents in depth characters that follow an inner journey as they find their true selves.

I sympathized with Kerberous as he confronts his former life and learns to loosen up and make friends. Seana is a luscious and beautiful guardian angel that guides him through patience, tolerance, and love. Together, their love is stronger than his lust for blood magic and power. Kerberous learns that there is more to life, and a life shared with the one he loves is much richer than a life of powerful magic alone.

The Case of the Tom Cat by Cherie Reich

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/SiApco9HCkI/AAAAAAAAAP8/gyZU_-Mlo0Y/s320/thecaseofthetomcat_LRG.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341314730068216386" />

Book Info:
Genre: Crime/Mystery
Publisher: Mystic Moon Press
ISBN: None
To Purchase: http://www.mysticmoonpress.com/bookstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=530

The Case of the Tom Cat is a curious mystery written in a Sherlock Holmes style. Told from the assistant’s perspective, Dr. Johnson, we see the world through his eyes as he admires detective O’Hare’s keen observation and deductive reasoning. We are not aware of the full extent of his friend’s plan until the story unfolds, creating a sense of suspense throughout.

The character motivations were well thought out, and all the pieces fall together in the end. As a reader, I particularly liked Charlotte Parker’s character. She is a strong and intelligent journalist that writes under a male pen name to be taken seriously. This historical reference shows how difficult it was for women to become writers, and how far the world has come today.

Overall, Reich has written an entertaining period piece.

Night's of Blood 2: Lazuli by Christine Rains

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/Shs_QvTBU8I/AAAAAAAAAPk/ba6IpUtIRJA/s320/51v5NS3tZuL__SL500_AA240_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339931339984556994" />
Book Info:
Genre: Horror/Vampire
Publisher: 23 House Publishing
ISBN-10: 0980185041
ISBN-13: 978-0980185041
To Purchase: Amazon Link

Carys is a gorgeous, age old vampire who performs burlesque in the nightclub Lazuli. She dances for the money to live in obscurity, for the thrill of performance, and for the surge of applause. With skin that glimmers like silver dust, she is a sought after performer that outshines the other women and has crafted a successful career. But life isn’t easy for Carys. She is torn between her life in the city and the reclusive mansion where her love awaits. Ultimately, she is forced to make a decision between the lights and glory of the city and the age old love that stirs restlessly in the shadows. His heart cannot wait any longer.

Lazuli is a romantic vampire tale centered around an epic love that has lasted centuries.
Both characters are very real in their desires and needs. Carys’s restless urge for the city is poignantly felt when faced with ages of seclusion and isolation. Offryd’s disdain for the “new world” is equally understandable. They are antiques from the past that can only truly be understood by one another. It is a grand, romantic idea spun out in a wonderful tale to read!

Banished by Ciaran Corby and Christine Rains

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/ShFvkxzrQ2I/AAAAAAAAAPU/koadVLc_-ws/s320/banished_LRG.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5337169711046804322" />

Book Info:
Genre: Romance/Fantasy
Publisher: Mystic Moon Press
ISBN:
To Purchase: http://www.mysticmoonpress.com/bookstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=520&zenid=7182b83bc4f158a3e9ea31e655fb3cb5

Banished is a delightful tale of a reclusive fantasy author named Sarah who discovers her wildest dreams when she spots a handsome fairy sitting on her doorstep. Giving new meaning to the phrase, “love at first sight,” Sarah is the only human who can see him. Curious about his eccentricities and swooning over his delicious appeal, she decides to invite him inside for a cup of tea. When Sarah learns of his unjust banishment from the fairy realm, she takes it upon herself to rescue him and set things right.

Both characters are refreshing in their simple innocence, polite antics, and funny tendencies toward melodramatic. It is through their love for each other that they learn to be serious and strong, rising to the occasion to battle the odds in order to be together. Amidst all of the magic and shine, they realize that love is the most magical attribute of all.

Rains and Corby have a charming writing style that presents a delicious and enchanting read. Although two artful writers are at work, the style of writing, unity of concept, and direction of plot flow like one master mind. A nice twist at the end brings everything full circle.

I enjoyed the contrast between the harsh realities of New York juxtaposed with the vivid beauty of the fairy land. Although it seems all whimsical and carefree, in a lot of ways it is even more dangerous than the streets of Albany.

I recommend this book to anyone that wishes for an enchanting jaunt into an imaginative fairy world.

The Faery Sickness by JennaKay Francis

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 235px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/ShCI2UOdDFI/AAAAAAAAAPM/mpGydenR8sI/s320/the-faery-sickness-cover-large.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336916025157684306" />

Note: this is a review done for Enchanting Reviews. She is so delicate and fragile, yet holds an inner conviction of purpose and unfaltering sense of what is right. I found myself cheering her triumphs and commiserating in her setbacks. While Aric was a typical young and arrogant boy, and Severrani a quiet mystery, it is Vala that shines through as the real larger than life heroine.

THE FAERY SICKNESS is a magical adventure about a young woman’s search for acceptance and love. Rains is a masterful writer, spinning poetic phrases that flow off the tongue, and weaving mysteries wrapped around mysteries where each page leads to more intriguing questions. Not only is this a heart tugging love story, it is a story of self discovery, a murder mystery, and a supernatural dream.

Kanys lives in fear of the light because of the spirits that it brings. She lives sequestered in a dark house, hiding from the world and sleeping during the daylight hours until a dashingly handsome ghost charms his way into her life and steals her heart. She leaves her refuge of darkness to help solve the mystery of his existence, because he is unlike the others and more real to her than anyone she’s ever met since the death of her mother. This journey leads her to places where she would never otherwise go and people that she’s destined to meet. Along the way she learns more about herself and finds the answers to dark secrets shading her past.

Rains creates vibrant and witty characters that are so real you expect them to come knocking at your door. They interact with such interesting banter that, at times, borders on vicious, shocking, and belly rumbling. Kanys is a sweet and fragile waif of a young woman juxtaposed with a swooningly poetic specter and a blunt and tumultuous punk. Together they show what true friendship is and how to love.

This is the one of the best books of 2009. I am thoroughly impressed with Rains’s masterful writing. This book called to me and wouldn’t let me put it down. I will be ordering an autographed copy for my bookshelf when it comes out in print.

Tiger's Realm by Kevin Grubbe

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_xPSQAyviXfY/ScbPn5E5k6I/AAAAAAAAAM4/tmI3GWUAqXQ/s320/tigersrealm_MED.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316164694400668578" />

Book Info:
Genre: Fantasy, Sci Fi, Romance, Action
Publisher: Mystic Moon Press
ISBN: 978-0-9821431-2-4
To Purchase: www.mysticmoonpress.com

Review:

Full of action, adventure, and epic battles, Tiger’s Realm combines science fiction and fantasy to create a world where technology and magic coexist side by side. It deals with the issues of slavery, vengeance, and honor, bringing up the timeless question of what it truly means to be human.

Long ago, wizards created man-animals, beings that were part man and part animal that could think rationally and feel emotions like humans. When the story begins, these man-animals are fighting for their freedom from slavery. A small rebel group has managed to escape and uses the ancient wizard city for their home base. Within this city lies powerful magic, portals to unknown worlds, and answers to the beginnings of civilization itself.

Perhaps the most interesting quality of this epic fantasy book is the way Grubbe shifts perspective, telling the tale from both the human and man-animal viewpoint. As a reader I found myself gravitating to the side of the man-animals, and sympathizing more with their plight. When one man-animal wants to kill another of its kind, ironically they call him more human than beast.

Tiger’s Realm stirs up great questions about war and peace. It is an epic tale that science fiction and fantasy readers alike will enjoy.

Son of My Soul by Debra Shiveley Welch

Book Info:
Genre: Autobiography
Publisher: Saga Books
ISBN: 978-1-894936-93-4
To Purchase: www.sagabooks.com

Review:

Son of My Soul is a beautifully written and powerful story, told with heart wrenching honesty. Welch bares her soul in a profoundly emotional journey of spiritual redemption and love. Not only is this Chris’s story, it is his family legacy, and Welch’s life passage, full of moments of elation, triumph, and despair.

Welch takes the reader through her own neglected childhood, her tumultuous young adulthood, and her quest for a happy and fulfilled life. In adopting Chris, she turns around everything that went wrong in her life and finds true contentment. It is a journey that begins in darkness and ends in light.

Welch has the ability to draw upon raw emotion and describe feelings so intricately that I felt them, myself, wholeheartedly. By the end of the book I cared for her and her son as if they were my own family and friends. I look forward to reading future books about their lives.

Angels in Disguise by Betty Sullivan La Pierre

Book Info:

Genre: Mystery/Suspense

Publisher: SynergEbooks 2006 Ebook

ISBN: 0-7443-01090-3

To Purchase: www.synergebooks.com

Review:

La Pierre’s clear, matter of fact style and great attention to detail weave a close knit web of mystery, where every strand leads to a clue. As a reader, she kept me guessing throughout the entire book. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, there was another plot twist and a deeper level to the story.

Detective Hawkman is investigating a missing person case involving a wounded husband, a loyal daughter, a quirky grandmother, and a flamboyant mother. The mother has disappeared and the prime suspects are numerous. As Hawkman investigates leads, he struggles with personal matters as well, adding poignancy to the tale and deepening his character. It is through this personal struggle that Hawkman meets the true Angels in Disguise.

La Pierre is a masterful storyteller who keeps the reader guessing until the very end.
